Already, there are splits in Iggy’s Liberal caucus. Two Newfoundland and Labrador Members of Parliament are threatening to oppose the federal budget unless there are amendments. This is a result of constituent action.
If women are a constituency, then it makes sense that Canadian women contact the Liberal critic responsible for the status of women, Anita Neville, because the budget fails women in a huge way:
- continues the attack on pay equity in the civil service
- provides no support to the working poor or those living in poverty
- does nothing to provide desperately-needed childcare supports
- provides stimulus to male-dominated areas of the economy, further ghettoizing the “pink ghetto“

I mean, really, what century is this, anyway?
UPDATE: As Beijing York suggests below, it wouldn’t hurt to also email the leaders of the opposition parties. Duceppe. Layton. Ignatieff.

/ January 30, 2009We need a study/poll of how many people vote for their MP first and then the Party. We need MPs who vote with their conscience and know what their constituients need and what they generally support or don’t support.
In this last election, the Libs drew to their ranks many NDP and Green candidates and voters.
Towing the Party line can be very irresponsible .

/ March 14, 2009I spoke with a 3 MP’s last week on bill C10 – 2 conservatives (Sheer and Broughan) and our lone liberal Ralph…. our conservative friends were the usuall blah blah… Ralph – well that was interesting – he says the liberal party will not stop the bill as it would trigger an election and we need to pass it to get the stimulus package out….. After some pressing he agreed that the Liberal party would be willing in the next 6 months to a year, to look at tabling some private member bills on removing some of the more offensive pieces that didn’t belong there in the first place – such as the Pay Equity piece… It sounded just like they were getting ready to head into an election… jeez – what am I thinking… of course they are….at least he wasn’t spouting coalition rhetoric again….
